Opus one 2013 overture napa red wine 750ml12/30/2023 ![]() The UPC code differs for each release of Overture and a QR code on the label indicates the vintage composition. Note: The 2022 release is about 70% 2019 vintage and 30% 2018 vintage. Much, much lighter than stereotypical Napa Cabernet! Top-quality oak and hands-off winemaking in evidence but it's very much lighter than Opus One itself. This seems ready to drink already although it's not going to decline that fast. Sweet palate entry and only just sufficient acidity for my taste but only the lightest of tannins. Warm red-fruit nose with some herbal quality and a little briariness somehow. A blend of the 20 vintages with 18 months ageing in French oak barrels. Concentrated, deep and layered but still with elegance. It's well built and very approachable with blackcurrant and black cherry flavours on the palate. Supple and agile, generous with textured, slightly grainy tannins that are so pleasant - expansive and round in the mouth. Dark forest berry notes on the nose with perfumed elements and notes of milk chocolate. The first time specific blocks have been used for this wine. High Cabernet Sauvignon in this blend, 60% new oak, 40% one year oak, bottled August 2021. Feels cohesive, juicy, with plenty of 2019 character (although this is multi vintage, with exact percentages not stated), with nuanced fresh mint leaf and crayon. The aromatics are deliciously open, with crunchy raspberry and blueberry fruits, balanced and well put together. Note: The UPC code differs for each release of Overture and a QR code on the label indicates the vintage composition.Gorgeous plum colour, sumptuous and ready to dive into. Were it not for that I would have been tempted to give it 17. Gorgeous up to the finish which is really rather sudden. Long follow-through and the merest hint of rusty nails on the end – but nothing intrusive. Really delightful to drink now with some (but not excessive) sweetness, a bit of inkiness and mellow mulberry fruit. Mellow, ripe, utterly Napa Valley nose but without excessive concentration. Very dark – blackish – crimson with a pale rim. 'Overture is a true expression of Opus One's estate vineyards', we are assured. 2021's release of this non-vintage blend of 'the five classic Bordeaux's varieties and aged for 18 months in French oak' based on the two very different vintages 20. First vintage 1993 but primarily sold cellar door, sold internationally as of 2016. Still quite a step between Overture and Opus but this is appealing and succulent. It really needs a little time to open in the glass, when a heather, peony and olive tapenade character comes out. A blend of the 2017 and (majority) 2018 vintages, this has a Californian generosity, but is firm in its tannic structure with softening raspberry and blueberry fruits. Little by little the team at Opus is refining the style of Overture, although it remains a riper, fruitier wine than the main bottling. Find the best local price for Opus One Overture, Napa Valley, USA, USA. First released 1993 and was, until 2014, primarily sold via cellar door. Overture comprises roughly 10-15% of the total Opus production. The aromas and flavours open and evolve after a few minutes in the glass giving succulent sweet cherry and blueberry notes alongside some savoury olive and ash elements. It has good construction on the palate with blackcurrants, Morello cherries and soft wood spicing with concentration and drive. A multi-vintage blend of mostly 2018 and some 2017, this is a fine, fruity and extremely likable second wine from Opus.
